Where to apply online for a Tanzanian visa?
Visas are required when traveling to Tanzania. Tourists may apply for a visa online in advance of travel. Applicants may complete the e-visa application form and make payment online with a credit card or bank transfer at (https://visa.immigration.go.tz). If the e-visa is approved, the applicant will receive a “grant notice” via email. Present a copy of the grant notice to the Immigration Officer on arrival at the airport in Tanzania.
Since January 2, 2020, visas can no longer be applied for in the embassies.
Visitors who enter on visas must present a roundtrip ticket and demonstrate they have sufficient funds for their stay.
Be prepared to show your passport and explain your visa status when entering or departing Zanzibar or when traveling around the mainland.
How to apply for the visa on arrival at the airport?
You can obtain a tourist visa upon your arrival at the airport in Tanzania. The cost is $100 USD for Americans and $50 for other countries. Be prepared to pay in cash in case connectivity issues make electronic transactions impossible.
There is a special area for visa applications at the airport in Tanzania. An application takes three stages:
Stage 1: Request a so-called government control number
Stage 2: Pay for your visa and receive a receipt
Stage 3: Get your visa issuance
How long the application takes depends on how busy the airport is. It is advisable to get off the plane quickly and submit the application immediately. Keep a pen handy! Those who are quick will spend about twenty minutes with the application. In the high season, however, it can take longer than an hour.
It could happen that the card machine is malfunctioning at the airport, therefore please have USD $ at hand to process your visa payment.
Vaccinations Requirements
Yellow fever vaccination is mandatory if traveling from a yellow fever endemic country or having transited for 12 or more hours in a yellow fever endemic country. Direct arrivals from non-endemic countries, including all countries in Europe and North America, are usually not required to show a yellow fever vaccination certificate.
A yellow fever vaccine is available at ports of entry for 50 USD per person.
Currency Restrictions for Entry
